The inaugural Bharat New Car Safety Assessment Program (BNCAP) started with the crash tests of Tata Motors’ flagship products – both Safari and Harrier and the results are encouraging. Just like how both the UVs performed at the Global NCAP, the similar way they have performed at India’s own crash test.

With a 5-star BNCAP rating, both – the new Harrier and Safari performed well in all areas, including Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP) and Safety Assist Technologies (SAT).

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • BNCAP has finally finished its inaugural crash test.
  • Both Tata Harrier and Safari scored 5 stars in the test.
  • Scored 30.08/32.00 in the adult occupant protection.

Tata Harrier & Safari: What does Bharat NCAP mean to both the SUVs?

BNCAP tested the Adventure Plus variant of both SUVs. Meaning, they were loaded up to the brim with almost all the safety features such as frontal airbags, seat belt reminder, belt pre-tensioner, belt load limiter, side head airbag and chest airbag protection. However, a few features, such as a knee airbag, were missing, although the carmaker offers the same on the top-end trim.

For adult occupant protection, Harrier and Safari scored 30.08 out of 32.00. Whereas, in child occupant protection the score was 44.54 out of 49.00.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test and side movable deformable barrier test, the SUVs scored 14.08 out of 16 and 16.00 out of 16.00, respectively. Even the side pole impact test says OK in the fact sheet, providing adequate safety to the occupants at all times.

With this both Tata Safari and Tata Harrier are now one of the safest SUVs available in India. Till now, only these two are the products that have been tested twice and that too by both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, scoring full 5 stars. Also, this achievement by Tata cars and SUVs will push other carmakers to achieve a similar feat making the entire ecosystem safer for a bright future for the automotive industry.
