Manufacturers are trying their best to ensure that their portfolios are filled with cars that run on cleaner fuels. Earlier, Maruti Suzuki introduced cars with factory-fitted CNG (compressed natural gas) and now, Tata Motors has decided to join the league with the all-new Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. Priced at Rs.6.10 Lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Delhi), both these products look promising. But, are they mileage-friendly just like Maruti Suzuki cars? Well, let’s head forward to find out.

Tata Tiago & Tigor CNG
For starters, both the Tiago and Tigor CNG weighs more than the standard model. The overall weight of the former hatchback stands at 1040kgs while the latter one weighs around 1087kgs.
To ensure that buyer has the option to choose the most relevant trim, Tiago CNG will be available in XE, XM, XT and XZ+ variants. Talking about the features, the top-end variant of this car will get a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, auto-folding wing mirrors and rear parking among others.
Coming to the Tigor, it is loaded with similar features with Magnetic Red and Pearlescent White exterior shades. To ensure occupants safety, Tata Motors has loaded the Tiago and Tigor CNG with dual front airbags, corner stability control and ABS as standard.
Under the hood, both of them will continue to feature the old 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. Thankfully, the overall output from this setup is rated at 73.4PS and 95Nm while being paired to a 5-speed gearbox. As claimed by the brand, both these cars return an overall range of 300kms on the CNG model.
Tata Motors also boast that the petrol setup is still there on the CNG models as well. This way, people who wish to extract more power can still use it on the petrol mode alone. To win customers’ trust, Tata Motors is also offering 2 years or 75,000km warranty on both these CNG models.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG
Maruti Suzuki has just introduced the second generation Celerio in India and within a few days, the brand has now decided to introduce a CNG version of the same. Starting with the powertrain, it comes with a 56.7PS, 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Interestingly, in terms of features, even the CNG version of Celerio is available with an air conditioner, halogen headlamps, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a music system just to name a few.
