BMW to support Android Auto from next year

BMW recently announced that it is going to launch cars with an integrated Android Auto app. The cars integrated with Android Auto will be launched from July 2020. BMW will be among the few cars manufacturer to offer Android Auto integration without a plugin. The feature will come with BMW Operating System 7.0 or later. The first demo of this feature will be given at CES 2020. With Android Auto integration, users will be able to use GPS navigation, play music, access SMS and web search on their cars.

BMW currently supports Apple’s CarPlay, which recently came into buzz when BMW decided to start a subscription service for the app. The Android Auto feature will be available on the touchscreen display of all 2019 / 2020 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, and 8 Series sedans, as well as the newest X3, X5, and X7 SUVs models.

“The Google Assistant on Android Auto makes it easy to get directions, keep in touch and stay productive. Many of our customers have pointed out the importance to them of having Android Auto inside a BMW for using a number of familiar Android smartphone features safely without being distracted from the road, in addition to BMW’s own functions and services,” said Peter Henrich, senior vice president Product Management BMW.
