Toyota is well known for its rugged SUVs. However, the company is now planning to launch its pickup truck in India which is the Toyota Hilux. Toyota Hilux is a Fortuner based pickup truck which was first launched in 1968.
Toyota Hilux right now has its eighth-generation avatar which concludes how reliable it has been since 1968.

Built on the ‘IMV-2’ platform which is exactly the same as the Toyota Fortuner and Innova. The Toyota Hilux is 5285mm long, 1855mm wide, and has a wheelbase of around 3085mm. The height of the massive pick up truck is 1815mm. According to the data, the Hilux is somehow similar to the Toyota Fortuner.
The Toyota Hilux comes with the same 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre engine options which are offered in the Toyota Fortuner and Innova. The engines will, however, produce lesser power and more torque which will be around 500Nm. The transmission will also be a low range unit with 3-shifts.
Meanwhile, the interior of the Toyota Hilux is a tech loaded cabin, that is similar to the Toyota Fortuner. Comfort at the rear, when compared to the Fortuner, is on a lower side due to less amount of legroom.
Toyota Hilux will directly rival the Isuzu D Max V Cross if launched in India. Meanwhile, Toyota is only considering it to launch in India and the company is yet to decide the launch after studying the entire market.
Built on the same platform with many similarities, Toyota Hilux will come with a price tag of ₹15-20 lakhs if launched in India. Establishing a market for pickup trucks is yet not an easy task but with this price tag it can be a great deal.
