The exact same Fortuner GR-Sport made its debut in Indonesia a few months ago. Surprisingly, as soon as the picture of the SUV surfaced online, people here in India started complimenting it. Looking at it as an opportunity, Toyota Bharat has decided that they want to stick to the segment throne. As a result, the brand has finally launched the all-new Toyota GR-Sport (GR-S) in India with a price tag starting at Rs.48.43 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Want to learn more about the Toyota Fortuner GR-Sport? Let’s take a look at the SUV down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Toyota Fortuner GR-Sport is now available in India.
  • Comes powered by a 201BHP, 2.8-litre diesel engine.
  • Receives several cosmetic enhancements inside-out.

Some minor cosmetic tweaks here and there and the Fortuner GR-Sport is ready. For starters, it might look like the Legender but there are several elements that differentiate both the variants. At the front, the fog lamp housing has been updated with gloss black panels. Unlike Fortuner Legender, the wing mirrors, alloy wheels and front skid plate of the GR-Sport Edition now feature a similar treatment that we have already witnessed on the fog lamp housing.

Coming to the rear profile, it remains more or less similar to Fortuner Legender. However, in terms of enhancements, the carmaker has decided to offer a body-coloured panel where ‘Fortuner’ is written. Multiple GR-S badges are also there to act as a differentiator.

Cabin of any Toyota has never been exciting and that’s the exact case even this time. On the inside, the all-new Fortuner GR-S is entirely finished in black with premium touches to compliment it. Thankfully, some edition specific changes in the form of a GR start-stop button, MID display and seats are being offered to improve the overall feel when compared to the regular model.

In case you don’t know, GR stands for Gazoo Racing and interestingly, it is the performance division of Toyota that works globally.

Under the hood, it will be available with a sole 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel mill with overall output rated at 201BHP and 500Nm. Just like the top-end variant of the regular model, power on the Fortuner GR-Sport is channelled to all-four wheels where transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Rivals

In India, Toyota Fortuner compares with other full-size SUVs such as MG Gloster and Isuzu MU-X. In a few days, Jeep has decided to enter this segment with their new product called Meridian which has already been revealed in India and does look promising.
