Nobody could ever imagine Fortuner as a performance-oriented SUV and to be precise, the new variant that the brand has recently launched is only limited to cosmetic enhancements just like what we have witnessed on the outgoing TRD Spotivo trim.

Talking about the all-new Toyota Fortuner GR Sport, it comes with the same engines available on the standard version. In fact, the brand is so monotonous that they have not even tuned the chassis and suspension for that enthusiastic drive feel. So does the sportier SUV really stands out? Well, it is definitely a miss for the brand but before making any opinion regarding the Fortuner GR Sport let’s take a look at what it has got to offer.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Toyota has introduced the new Fortuner GR Sport in Indonesia.
  • It is available with several edition specific cosmetic enhancements.
  • Will be available with 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines.

First thing first, the cosmetic changes on the outside are subtle but they are worth mentioning. At the front, the Fortuner GR Sport comes with a new radiator grille, slim LED headlights and a revised bumper. Other than this, it gets large 18-inch alloy wheels and several GR Sport badges just to make the owner feel special.

The cabin of the sportier edition remains tidy. To be precise, it is still available with a multifunctional steering wheel, paddle shifters, MID screen, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera and automatic climate control among others. The infotainment system o the Fortuner GR Sport will get smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the hood, it comes with two engine options. Buyers who will be choosing the petrol variant will get a 2.7-litre motor that churns out a decent 163PS of power and 242Nm of peak torque. Next, is the 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine that propels a massive 150PS of power alongside a torque of 400Nm. For now, both of them are available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a rear-wheel drive powertrain as standard.

Is it coming to India?

Toyota has not announced anything regarding the launch of Fortuner GR Sport in India. However, we know that they came up with the TRD Sportivo variant and hence, even expect this one to come soon.
