Toyota Fortuner Vs MG Gloster

Call it a revolution but people are now smart enough to do their own research and understand what they really want. Sedans are undoubtedly good but keeping in mind the extreme road conditions in India, people are now preferring SUVs over any other body type. Since Endeavour is no more a part of this segment the very next best option to all the buyers is the recently introduced Gloster. Of course, it takes a lot more time to trust a new product but we can’t ignore such a capable SUV because of that. As a result, we are here today comparing the reliable Toyota Fortuner with the MG Gloster to find out which one suits you better. Want to learn more? Here are all the details related to both of them down below.

Toyota Fortuner

At the beginning of this year, Toyota Bharat introduced the 2021 Fortuner with a new Legender trim. Surely, everyone expected a lot from this new model but the changes were subtle and were mostly limited to cosmetic ones. Starting with the front profile, the new range now features slightly sleeker LED headlamps. To freshen up the side and rear end, the carmaker has also introduced a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels and LED taillamps respectively. Enhancing the practicality inside the cabin are several features including a wireless charger, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera and an 11-speaker JBL surround sound system. Currently, even the 2021 Fortuner is not available with a sunroof.

The entry-level variants of Fortuner are available with a 166PS, 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Interestingly, other variants, including Legender are only available with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. For your information, it produces a massive 204PS and 500Nm where the peak torque is slightly better than what Gloster offers with their twin-turbocharged engine onboard.

Toyota has deployed both a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission across the entire range. Interestingly, to make it capable in different terrains, the brand has even introduced a four-wheel-drive powertrain on certain trims.

Not as rich as the Gloster in terms of safety but the overall build quality and crucial safety measures give you a sense of assurance. Talking about the basic safety aids, Fortuner is loaded with seven airbags, hill assists, vehicle stability control and ABS with EBD as standard.

MG Gloster

Not as rugged as the Toyota Fortuner but the all-new MG Gloster is seriously a perfect SUV for a family of six or even seven. Available with a host of features such as a 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, large panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats and a PM2.5 air ioniser it does make sense in this modern era. For an unmatched experience, MG Motor India has introduced a 12-speaker surround sound system on the Gloster.

Powering this massive SUV is either a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel or a similarly displaced twin-turbocharged diesel engine. As claimed by the brand, the first one is a mile-muncher and is capable of producing a decent 163PS and 375Nm of peak torque. The latter one with twin-turbochargers propels a massive 218PS and 480Nm making it the most powerful engine in this segment.

Unlike the Fortuner, MG Gloster is not available with a manual gearbox. Instead, the carmaker has decided to offer a sole 8-speed transmission across the entire range with RWD and 4WD systems depending upon the variant.

Equipped with a Level-2 ADAS system, Gloster feels slightly safer with lots of electronic aids on offer. To begin with, it is available with automatic emergency braking, driver fatigue reminder system, adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning. Other basic safety features such as ABS, six airbags and over-speed warning are also a part of the entire range.
