Volkswagen India has recently teased the Volkswagen Taigun on their official website. And this shows that the German carmaker might bring the compact SUV to India soon. However, based on the Volkswagen T-Roc, the upcoming Taigun is designed purposely for the Indian market. Further, the VW Taigun was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and the all-new SUV will be based upon MQB A0 IN platform.

Design-wise, it will come with a signature VW grille that gets horizontal chrome finishing. Meanwhile, the upcoming SUV will also feature LED headlights with DRLs, alloy wheels, faux diffusers and roof rails among others.

The dashboard of the Volkswagen Taigun features a digital instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system. Meanwhile, other features such as climate control, connected car technology, USB charging slots, etc. are also available on the upcoming compact SUV.

Powering the all-new Volkswagen Taigun is a 1.0L three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This motor produces 113BHP of power and a peak torque of 200Nm. Meanwhile, the engine comes mated either to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG transmission. However, Volkswagen might not bring the all-wheel-drive powertrain to India due to cost-cutting.

When launched, Volkswagen Taigun will go head-on against Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Kia Seltos and Renault Duster among others. Therefore, the German carmaker will launch the Volkswagen Taigun in India by the first quarter of 2021. Apart from this, Skoda will soon launch the Vision-IN that is based upon the same VW’s MQB A0 IN platform.
