‘Dress Italian, Eat Mexican, Drive German’ you might have heard this one-liner many times. But are German cars actually affordable? Maybe not. But, Volkswagen is trying hard enough to mark its rebirth in India with a quality-oriented yet affordable lineup.

For that, the company has recently confirmed that it will take the wraps off from the Taigun on 31st March. Not to forget, Volkswagen has reintroduced the T-Roc for the Indian market and will be coming with the Tiguan facelift soon.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Volkswagen has confirmed that it will reveal the Tiguan on 31st March.
  • The upcoming Tiguan will be available with two turbo petrol engines on offer.
  • The company has announced that it will be priced on the premium side.

Volkswagen Taigun

To start with, Volkswagen Taigun will be based on the VW Group’s new MQB A0 IN platform. To be precise, it is a heavily localised version of the company’s global MQB A0 platform. Also, this is the same platform that we see on the all-new Skoda Kushaq.

Two engine options are expected to be there on the Taigun. The first one will obviously be a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol motor. It produces a decent 113HP and 175Nm of torque. However, the other one is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing a massive 147HP and 250Nm of torque. Not to forget, both the engines are available with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. But customers are also allowed to choose a 6-speed torque convertor with the 1.0-litre engine. Whereas, the 1.5-litre engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG unit.

Feature-wise, it will be a premium offering. The list begins with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto-dimming IRVM, multi-zone climate control, multi-functional steering wheel and fully digital instrument cluster to name a few. As per the sources, unlike the Kushaq, Taigun will be coming with a panoramic sunroof.

German carmakers are too good in terms of safety. Therefore, expect the all-new SUV to get ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold control and multiple airbags among others.

Alternatives

In India, Volkswagen Taigun will go head-on against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Do give a look at what its rivals have got to offer.
