Yamaha first launched its SR400 motorbike in the year 1978. It is already 43 years that the Japanese bike manufacturer first introduced this retro-looking bike. However, recently, Yamaha has introduced two new variants of the SR400 motorbike known as Final Edition and Final Edition Limited. These are the last updates on the bike as the company will discontinue the Yamaha SR400 after the launch of the Final Editions.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Yamaha has recently launched the Final Edition of Yamaha SR400 in Japan.
  • It comes powered by a 399cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine.
  • To retain the retro charm, Yamaha never offered ABS on the SR400.
Braking duties on the Yamaha SR400 Final Edition and Final Edition Limited will be handled by a disc brake at the front. Meanwhile, at the rear, it comes with drum brakes that work quite well. Further, a twin-shock suspension setup at the rear is present there on the SR400. At the front, it comes well equipped with telescopic forks with gaiters. Interestingly, ABS is not available on this bike even as optional. Might be wondering ABS are now compulsory on larger bikes. Well, in Japan, the deadline to sell a bike without ABS is till October 2021.
At the heart, it comes with a 399cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. Further, this engine is capable to churn out a massive 23BHP @ 6500 RPM and 28Nm of peak torque @ 3000 RPM. Interestingly, to maintain the retro charm of the motorbike, Yamaha does not offer the self-start system on the SR400. As claimed by the company, it returns a mileage of somewhere around 29.7 kmpl.
With that said, this is the end of an era. In the time of modern bikes, Yamaha SR400 is a timeless classic and it will remain the same even after it is gone. Let’s hope Yamaha introduces something similar in the near future as well.
