Aadhaar mandatory for PAN card

Starting July 1st, Government of India has made it mandatory for individuals to link their PAN number with Aadhaar. For the individuals, who have not got their aadhaar number yet for some reasons, they can link the enrollment ID of aadhaar.

With government being strict on the linking on PAN and Aadhaar, there are still a bunch of people who are exempted from the aadhaar PAN linking. The list of such people is given below

  • Individuals over 80 years of age
  • Residents of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir
  • Non-Resident Indians
  • Non-Indian citizens living in India

Supreme court had given a decision in the matter, which had upheld government’s order of making aadhaar mandatory for bank transactions and to file ITR. However, this list of exemptions was declared by the government even before the decision of SC was declared. Also, the people listed above, will get exemption only if they have not obtained an Aadhaar number or an enrollment ID yet. For the people, who have their Aadhaar number, the guidelines do come into the effect.
