After Twitter took Twitter natives by storm after announcing charges for Verification badges, social media giant Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has also dived into a subscription model for revenue generation. Meta kicked off verified service in India at a monthly subscription price of Rs 699 for mobile apps.

FB owner is preparing to launch a verified service on the web in the upcoming months at a subscription rate of Rs 599/ month.

Meta Subscription Price

“Meta Verified is available for direct purchase on Instagram or Facebook in India starting today. People can purchase a monthly subscription for Rs 699 on iOS and Android. In the coming months, we’ll also introduce a web purchase option for Rs 599 a month,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

How To Verify Accounts?

Users of Facebook and Instagram must provide a government ID to authenticate their accounts to subscribe to verified accounts.

The verified account will offer account assistance and impersonation precautions.

“We’re expanding our test of Meta Verified to India after seeing good results from our early testing in several countries globally. We’ll also continue honoring verified badges that were granted previously based on existing criteria,” Meta said.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

Not everybody is eligible for this newly introduced service. To be eligible, the applicant must be 18 years of age at least and meet minimum activity requirements, which include prior posting history.

Applicants will also have to submit a government ID matching their profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account they need verified badges for.

“We want to make it easier for creators to establish a presence so they can focus on building their communities on Instagram or Facebook. As we continue to expand and evolve Meta Verified globally, there will also be no changes to accounts that were previously verified, ” Meta said.

Notably, to use Meta Verified on both Instagram and Facebook, the applicant must subscribe to each app separately. At present, this service is only present in the App for Instagram.

Social media platform Twitter was the first to roll out subscriptions for verified badges, charging a monthly subscription of Rs 650 for the blue badge on the web for individuals and creators and Rs 900 on mobile devices to continue their verification status.
