Along with its units namely Aircel cellular and Dishnet Wireless, the sixth largest telecom operator, Aircel filed in a bankruptcy at the National Companies Law Tribunal in Mumbai because of fierce competition in the market and a sufficiently high amount of debt. After Reliance Jio led by Mukesh Ambani unleashed a price war in the sector, Aircel has become the fourth telecom firm to exit from the market. Aircel also stated that in the effort to merge with another operator, no positive results were out which ultimately led to the lapse in September 2017. It is being said that under the current circumstances, resolution under the insolvency and bankruptcy code is much needed.

The telecom operator which has a debt of around Rs.1 5,500 Crore and 85 million subscribers started its services in six places including Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh from 31st January 2018. This step was taken in order to improve the focus and put it in order to better the performing ones. Ever since the services have been disrupted, a lot of inconvenience is being faced by the licensed service areas including Kerala, Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Odisha, North East and West Bengal.

Also, there have been complaints by subscribers who have been facing difficulties in porting their mobile number to the other service providers. However, direction will soon be issued to the company by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in order to keep their service quality in check and give them additional time and porting codes so that their customers can get out of their circle and switch to some other networks. The company was quoted as saying that they are working out intra-circle roaming arrangements with other telecom providers to help their subscribers in staying connected.
