Amazon, the e-commerce giant which has already launched Prime and Alexa in India, is now all set to launch yet another global service in the Indian market — Audible.

As per the reports, Amazon will launch its audio book and entertainment service Audible in India. The service is expected to launch early next year and the company has already  started beta testing in the country.

Beta service is currently available for the company’s internal team members. Amazon has created a select bouquet of audio-books including top sellers and classics and will keep on increasing the offerings under Audible in the run up-to-the India launch.

When asked about this development, Amazon spokesperson said,

We are always looking to continue to develop our offerings on behalf of our global membership base. As in the past we don’t talk about new products and services until they are available, but please stay tuned!

In the US, Audible is free for Prime users while non-Prime users can use the service for about $7 per month. It is not yet known how much the company plans to charge its users in India. Going by the introductory price for Amazon Prime over a year ago, the online retailer could offer Audible at a much lower rate in India compared to the US.

Audible was acquired by Amazon in 2008 for around $300 million. The platform sells digital audio-books, radio and TV programmes as well as audio versions of magazines and newspapers.
