Union Minister Arun Jaitley resumed the Finance Minister charge on Friday. Arun Jaitely went for medical consultation to US on 22nd of January and after that under went a surgery. During his absence Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took the addition charge of the finance ministry and and presented the interim budget on 1 February.
“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley,” a press communiqué from the President’s office said.
“I have got this opportunity to address you because I have the temporary charge of the finance ministry. It is a matter of happiness that Arun Jaitley has returned yesterday evening in good health. I spoke to him yesterday and told him that can I excuse myself from this event. He said, ‘No, because you have agreed for this event, you have to go’,” Goyal said in a addressing to Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited.
Jaitley attended the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by PM Narendra Modi after the heinous Pulwama terror attack Thursday. He even briefed the media after the meeting and assures that the perpetrators of such a heinous will not be spared and they will have to pay a heavy price for it.
Jaitley will now address the board of RBI on 18 February as according to conventions finance minister addresses board meeting of RBI and SEBI.
Arun Jaitely while he was in US for treatment regularly expressed his opinion’s on various issues like Rafale Deal and CBI’s investigation on Chanda kochhar. He even did a video conference about the interim budget 2019.
