India’s second richest person, Azim Premji who is known for his big generous donations has once again donated huge chunk of his worth for the noble cause of providing education to underprivileged children who can’t afford it.

The Wipro chairman donated 52,750 crore for the cause of education. This has taken the total amount donated by him to 1,45, 000 crores or 21 billion dollars – among the largest in the world.

Comment on this, Biocon‘s CEO-Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said, “Azim Premji is an exemplary philanthropist – someone who has inspired us and we are proud of what he has done. I think he is a true nation builder.”

The Azim Premji Foundation in a release said: “The Foundation’s extensive field work in education has been in some of the most disadvantaged parts of India, to help contribute to the improvement of quality and equity of the public (government) schooling system. All this work has been in close partnership with various State Governments. Currently this field work is spread across Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh, along with some work in the north-eastern states of India.

Back in 2014, Azim Premji made a pledge started by the American billionaires, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet that he will be donating 50% of his wealth for the noble cause of philanthropy. For his philanthropic work he started a foundation with the name Azim Premji foundation which has been working from the year 2000.
A recent report by management consultant Bains & Co stated that India’s super rich were giving less for social causes than they were five years ago but Azim Premji is surely not following that suit.
