It can be seen now that infrastructure is the driver for the development of our country’s economy. This is why our finance minister Mr. Arun Jaitley has announced that a budget of Rs. 5.97 Lakh Crore will be allocated to infrastructure in the year 2018-19 increased by Rs. 1 Lakh Crore. This increase in the budgetary expenditure on infrastructure for the financial year 2018-19 from Rs. 4.94 Lakh Crore in 2017-18 to Rs. 5.97 Lakh Crore for 2018-19 has been contributed towards the creation of employment opportunities to help in the growth of the country. He also stated that our prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi will himself review all the targets and achievements in the infrastructure sector on a regular basis. All the national highways more than 9,000 km in length will be completed in 2018-19 as stated by him and also highlighted that Bharatmala scheme for the providing good connectivity to the interior as well as backward areas for the country has been approved. 35,000 km of highways will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.35 Lakh Crore under the phase-I of the project.
The government has allocated a capital expenditure of Rs. 1,48,528 Crore for the year 2018-19 for Indian railways and all the trains are soon going to contain all the upcoming technologies including WiFi and CCTV. To promote tourism as well as emergency medical care, the government has also made the framework to invest in the seaplane activities. The government has also launched the Smart city mission with all the modern facilities as urbanization is an opportunity as well as the priority as stated by the finance minister. Also, the government will develop 10 tourist destinations in order to attract more visitors from all over the world.
In addition to all this, around ninety-nine cities have been selected at an expenditure of Rs. 2.04 Lakh Crore. Numerous projects including smart roads, intelligent transport system and solar roof have been implemented in these cities.Projects worth Rs. 2,350 Crore has already been completed and the others worth Rs. 20,850 Crore is under process.
