One of the largest e-commerce giant, Amazon India announced on Friday that it has opened 50,000 seasonal roles to meet the surge in demand and these jobs will be in their fulfilment centres, delivery network, and part-time work as part independent contractors. According to Amazon India, these individuals will be part of the pick, pack, ship, and deliver orders teams.

Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA & LATAM, Amazon, said, “One thing we’ve learned from the COVID-19 pandemic is how important a role Amazon and e-commerce can play for our customers as much as for small businesses and the economy. We take this responsibility seriously, and we’re proud of the work our teams are doing to help small and other businesses deliver to our customers through this difficult time.”

Akhil also ensured the safety of the workers wherein he said, “This will also keep as many people as possible working during this pandemic while providing a safe work environment for them”.

Recently, there had been a lot of hustle and bustle around people getting fired from their existing companies. However, in the midst of such a situation, few companies are trying to create more job opportunities. The last week has seen companies such as Zomato, Swiggy, Ola, ShareChat and Wework announced layoffs as they noticed a huge drop in business due to the COVID-19 crisis and the extended lockdown.
