Covid-19 Lockdown : Maruti scaled down production by almost 98 per cent in May 

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has scaled down its production capacity by 97.54 per cent in May. The company has said in a regulatory filing that it has produced only 3, 714 units in May, this year. While it has produced 1,51,188 units in May 2019.

As anticipated, its key focus has been on the manufacturing of passenger vehicles in the month of May. Though the production figure is less than that of the previous year. This year, the company has produced 3,652 passenger vehicles in May as compared to 1,48,095 vehicles, it manufactured in the same month, last year. The difference in production percentage year on year basis is 97 per cent. The company has produced only 62 commercial vehicles out of total 3,714 vehicles.

Maruti has manufactured only 401 units of its small cars, like Alto while the numbers last year was 23,874. The production of compact cars got scaled down by almost 98 per cent in May. Mid-sized sedan Ciaz production went down to 163 units while last year, it was 3,834 units. 

Sales of Maruti’s Ertiga MPV and Dzire compact sedan were the highest in May, followed by sales of Ertiga, Dzire and Eeco.
