gst good and services tax

From the day GST was implemented, a viral message has been making rounds on WhatsApp, which claims that the credit card users will have to pay GST twice if they are making payment of their utility bills using a credit card.

The WhatsApp message claims that users need to pay tax on their mobile bill or other utility bill payments. Also, it claims that the transaction will further attract tax once the credit card statement is generated. A lot of users seemed worries on the same, however, the government has clarified that the users do not have to take the message seriously.

Revenue secretary, Hasmukh Adhia, took to Twitter yesterday to bust a number of myths going around about GST. He cleared that the credit card users do not have to pay any tax on their transactions. A tax is charged only on the interest amount. So if the users make their payment on time, they will not have to pay any charges. The only time GST would be charged, is while making the payment of utility bill, and not the credit card.

Hasmukh Adhia has also appealed to the people about not spreading unverified messages through social media and to play an active part in the implementation of GST.
