The Central government on Monday extended the deadline for filing income test returns (ITRs) by a fortnight. The due date has been shifted from 30th September to 1st October 2018 for payers who were to file an audit report along with income tax return.

The income tax department tweeted, “CBDT extends due date for filing of Income Tax Returns & audit reports from 30th Sept,2018 to 15th Oct, 2018 for all assessees liable to file ITRs for AY 2018-19 by 30.09.2018,after considering representations from stakeholders.”

The stakeholders have earlier requested the Central Board for Direct Taxes to delay the deadline as they need more time to file an audit report or transfer pricing report in compliance with the law.

Reportedly, the Chartered Accountants have complained about the early deadlines as they were finding it difficult to manage time to prepare an audit report owing to their time devotion for filing returns of the individual taxpayers. The increasing in number of clauses was also consuming lots of their time.

In 2017, CBDT had extended the due date for ITR with audit reports to 7th November from 31st October 2017.
