The Chinese company ByteDance announced on Monday that Kevin Mayor will become the head of its popular Product – TikTok and will hold the position of Chief Operating Officer at their company.

Kevin Mayor is the former executive of Disney where in his role he was responsible for leading Disney’s direct to consumer offerings. He had managed Hulu, ESPN+, hoster operations on the direct-to-consumer platform. Under his work, Disney had successfully completed the roll-out of Disney+ television streaming service. He resigned from Disney on Monday to work with TikTok.

TikTok is experiencing a surge in its application downloads during the lockdown as it’s popularity is growing among people hemmed in by ‘work from home’ during the lockdown.

According to the reports of US-based research industry SensorTower, about 65 million people globally had downloaded the application in March.

TikTok is a user-generated Video Entertainment Application. The application is most popular among youngsters and teenagers but popularity among adults is also increasing during the lockdown.

Kevin in his new role at ByteDance as the head of TikTok will be responsible for leading the entertainment App. Along with that, he will work on his position as Chief Operating Officer of TikTok’s parent company and will be responsible for the company’s global development. Douyin, Toutiao and Xigua are the other products that the company owns.

He will be reporting directly to ByteDance Founder and Chief Executive Yiming Zhang. Kevin Mayor is enthusiastic for his new job and said in a release that he is excited to help lead the next phase of ByteDance’s Journey.
