Technology has brought advancement in our lives. People now prefer to purchase things online rather than offline in greed of special offers. But wait, Government of India is now planning to map our online shopping habits. The government wants to know our shopping details.

National Sample Survey Organisation will carry out this consumer expenditure survey. The survey will be monitored by the Statistics Ministry which starts in July and will continue till June 2018. This survey will provide household-level data on spending habits of both rural and urban areas.

Officials involved in this data keeping exercise said: “government data managers now reckon e-commerce spend is beginning to hit critical mass and should be part of the national economic database”.

According to the survey by Red-Seeer Consulting, India’s e-commerce sector was estimated to be $14.5 billion in 2016. While India’s total retail spending is $750 billion. But this online commerce is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years.
