The final meeting of GST council before the official implementation has concluded in New Delhi. At the end, Arun Jaitley spoke to the media to announce the GST rates on products which were still remaining. The list included all sorts of clothing and apparels etc.

The government has exempted Khadi from the GST, which should come as a great boost to various small businesses in rural areas working to produce Khadi. Also, the movement started to promote Khadi is set to get boosted up with this declaration. Along with Khadi, Jute & Silk yarn, National Flag and Gandhi topi have also been exempted.

The clothing category is set to see a great positive trend, as majority of the items, costing under ₹1000 will attract 5 percent GST. The costlier counterparts, will be levied 12 percent of GST from July 1st.

Blankets, traveling rugs, kitchen clothes, curtains, bed & other kinds of linen and Terry items, costing less than ₹1000 will be under the lowest GST slab, whereas, the costlier items are kept under 12% GST rate. This also includes bags, sacks, mosquito nets and other fibres.

Manmade fibres will attract a GST of 18 percent and man made apparels costing over ₹1000 are kept under 12% rate.
