Final meeting of the GST council has been concluded in New Delhi and the GST rates for almost all the items have now been decided. One of the noticeable things among all the announcement was the exemption given to religions items.

Speaking to the media reporters after the completion of GST council meeting, Arun Jaitley said that the items, which could be categorised under Puja Samagri, are being exempted from GST. This also includes the items sold by religious institutions, temples and mosques throughout the country.

The items which stand exempted from the GST list include wooden khadau, rudraksh, panchamrit, panchgavya, sacred threads, Vibhuti, tulsi-kanti Mala, chandan tika, unbranded honey and diya batti.

Some of the items do not feature in the exemption list and will attract 5% GST. These items include mishri, lobhan, bura and batasha.
