The weather office said that the monsoon rainfall would be normal this year. In India, where two-third of the country depends entirely upon agriculture for their livelihood, this news is good news amid the outbreak of coronavirus. The higher income from the farm will hike up the demand and business sentiment.

After closely observing the annual forecast of the rainy season, India Meteorological Department stated that the month of June to September is the monsoon season in India, and with a model error of  ± 5% there is going to be likely 100% of the long period average rainfall.

Last year the farmers had suffered a bad monsoon because it started off late and was uneven leading to flood, towards the end of seson which damaged most of the crops.

Secretary of Ministry of earth sciences, M Rajeevan stated that as the world is suffering a lot, IMD has got good news to share that rainfall would be normal in the year 2020.

Chief economist at CARE Ratings, Madan Sabnavis stated that it is a positive sign, but we must not get too much excited about it. The current challenge is of having labor; until we have a proper solution for this monsoon would be of no use.

In comparison to the earlier normal, we can expect delay of 3-7 days for western and central India. Whereas, in the northwestern India, monsoon would arrive a week earlier by July 8.

By the last of May, a detailed forecast can be expected by IMD for 36 subdivisions.
