India High Resolution Unemployment Concept

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, appealed to all the private companies on April 14th 2020 to show empathy towards their employees and not to sack them from their current jobs due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

However, companies are failing to adhere with the statement and the economy is already moving towards vulnerability. The sectors who seem to get affected the most are IT, Aviation and Travel Industries.

On April 7th 2020, a Bengaluru based firm asked around 15 tech professionals to discontinue their tenure amid the current pandemic situation. Some of the employees from across different sectors complained that they were fired based on a single email and even a phone call.

Companies like Bajaj Auto instructed its workers to accept the 10% pay cut if the production fails to resume on April 21st 2020. Vistara demanded 30% workforce to take compulsory holidays which will be considered as “no-pay leave”. Also, recently Indiabulls has terminated 2000+ employees with no severance package. Similarly, Cultfit as well do not seem to have compensated well to their employees and complains to not be able to pay salaries to their staff. Lately, Aviation industry requested the government to intervene in the situation.

“Worst is yet to come”,warns World Health Organisation (WHO) while ICMR says India is doing its best.
