After ruling the telecom sector, Reliance Jio is now going to hurt the smartphone makers in the near future by launching the LTE enabled smartphones with the price tag of ₹500. The newcomer has signed a deal with Intex as a vendor for its much-awaited 4G feature phone. The phone is expected to roll out in the market in August.

Nidhi Markanday, director and business head, Intex Technologies said, The co-developed phone, which Intex is making in India, will be priced by Jio through a subsidy model, and will also be marketed by the new telco, with the handset maker not involved in both aspects.

When asked about the lot size of the 4G feature phone, the Intex executive said, “Jio has given us a ballpark figure. Initially, we will not be going in a big way as we first want to test the waters”.

According to the reports, Jio had placed a total order of 18-20 million of the 4G VoLTE feature phones with some Intex key Chinese original device manufacturers (ODMs). Besides the phone makers like Micromax and Lava are also in talks with Jio for bundled offers for 4G feature phones.
