Jio, an Indian conglomerate, has partnered with MediaTek, a massive fabless semiconductor company in Taiwan, to provide digital dashboards to the rapidly expanding electric scooter sector.

The collaboration unveiled on Thursday at a New Delhi industry event, will enable Jio-developed hardware, an Android-based operating system, and MediaTek chips to be used in electric scooters in India and maybe other growing markets. These instrument clusters, which show the driver’s information, are powered by MediaTek MT8766 and MT8768 system-on-chips and run on the Android-based AvniOS operating system.

The two titans may have huge benefits from the alliance. India, one of the largest two-wheeler marketplaces in the world, is planning to have all two-wheeler sales powered by electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030.

By giving value-added services like cloud and mapping solutions, as well as 4G subscriptions to car owners, Jio hopes to increase its revenue through this cooperation. The telecom company may eventually be able to make money off of the data that its 4G modules and clusters gather.

Kiran Thomas, president and CEO of Jio Platforms, said, “This collaboration firms up our commitment towards India-led global innovation and enhancing customer experiences in IoT technology, integrating MediaTek’s advanced chipset with our cutting-edge digital solutions to set new benchmarks offering seamless performance and unparalleled customer experience tailored for the future of mobility.”

The cluster operating system includes a Jio Automotive App Suite that gives access to services provided by the Indian telecom giant, like Jio Voice Assistant for voice assistance, JioSaavn music streaming app, JioPages web browser, and JioXploR geolocation and geospatial service. It also offers real-time data analytics, customizable interfaces, and voice recognition. Integrations with vehicle controllers, IoT-enabled charging infrastructure, and a preloaded battery management system are also included.
