Central Govt has announced that to file income taxes post 1 July 2017, you have to link your Aadhaar with PAN number. You can link Aadhaar with PAN number in two ways. First, is using SMS service and the other one is through the income tax website.
Follow this step to step guide on how to link Aadhaar Card with PAN number.
PAN Number
PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10 digit unique code number that is assigned to every individual in this country who is obliged to pay income taxes. The card is issued by income tax department of India and is responsible for filing for keeping a track of all the taxes filed by a person.
Apart from filing taxes, PAN can be used as an ID proof in almost all the departments in the country. It can be used in trains, for issuing a passport, getting a telecom connection etc.
Aadhaar Card
Aadhaar card, produced by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is the largest personal identification system in the world. Over 1.2 billion people of India are eligible to have this card and over 75% people have it as of now. The card has a unique sixteen digit number that is different for every person. In addition to a unique number, the card also has retina scan facility which is unique for every citizen.

SMS procedure to link Aadhaar with PAN
Send SMS to 567678 or 56161 in the following format:
UIDPAN<12 digit Aadhaar><10 digit PAN>
Example: UIDPAN 3421342112341234 AAAAAE12EE
Apart from this, you can go to the income tax website and link aadhaar with PAN yourself.
Link Aadhaar with PAN on Income Tax website:
To do this you have to follow three simple steps,
- Visit E-filling website and log in with your user ID and password. In case you don’t have an account, make one.
- After this, go to the ‘Profile Setting’ tab on the top menu and click on it. In the drop-down menu, click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
3. In the end, it will ask you to fill your personal details which you can fill using your Aadhaar card details. Once it is done, click on ‘Link now’.
After this, you should get a message which says that ‘Aadhaar-PAN linking is completed successfully.’
