The 7th Pay Commission recommendations which were announced seventeen months ago by our finance minister Mr. Arun Jaitley are now being worked upon by the Modi government to be converted into reality. It has been analyzed that once the minimum wage hike is accepted; the lives of 48 Lakh government employees will get affected. As per the reports, the minimum wage hike will help the lower-level employees from grade 1 to grade 5. It has also been reported that in the Finance Minister’s office an official said that the government is consistently working towards increasing the minimum wage of the employees of the Central Government.

Reports are further saying that the government is also using a fitment formula in order to increase the minimum wage in pay thereby resulting in 3 times of basic pay of the 6th pay commission. The entry-level basic pay will be increased to Rs. 18,000 from Rs. 7,000 as a result of the new scales. The starting salary for the class 1 officials will become Rs. 56,000. Also, the salary will go on to Rs. 2.5 Lakh to Rs. 90,000 for the highest level which is a secretary.

The government employees are however persisting for an increase in the minimum pay of Rs. 26,000 with a fitment formula of 3.68 times. The Union Cabinet had approved the recommendations of the CPC along with 34 modifications and resulting Rs. 30,748 on the exchequer as a result of it in June 2017. All the allowances were also brought into effect from 1st July 2017.  The recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission are going to affect more than Crore employees including 48 Lakh central government employees and 58 Lakh pensioners.
