Reserve Bank of India is soon going to launch new notes of INR 100. The new notes will have a similar design to that of the notes currently in circulation.

In a notification today, RBI stated that the new notes of denomination 100 in Mahatma Gandhi Series – 2005 will be issues soon having a similar design to the previous notes. The notes will have R in inset on both the number panels and it will bear the signature of Urjit R Patel, the RBI Governor.

Other features will include ascending size of numerals (similar to that of new INR 500 and INR 2000 notes), enlarged identification mark on the edge and bleed lines. The year of printing will be printed on the back of the note.

The notes issued in the past will continue to be a legal tender as of now, the notification stated.
