Piyush Goyal, Finance Minister and BJP leader on Tuesday refuted the claims made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, the latter had said that the amount of black money deposited by Indians has increased in Swiss banks.

Earlier reports cited that money has increased in Swiss banks over 50 per cent to Rs 7,000 crore in the year 2017.

Goyal contradicted the earlier reports and  said, “Indian deposits in Swiss banks have actually come down by 34 per cent to $524 million dollars in 2017.” He said this while citing reports provided by Swiss authorities. He added, “After Modi government came to power in 2014, the amount deposited in the Swiss National Bank has reduced by 80 per cent between 2014 and 2017.”

Goyal attacked Congress chief and said, “Of course, he has a habit of saying things without knowing the facts. Even during the no-confidence motion, we have seen claims of Congress being demolished.”

Goyal also said that his government is set to bring back black money with the help of the Swiss banks. He remarked, “India also signed an agreement with Switzerland on December 21, 2017. Both countries started collecting data in accordance with global standards on January 1, 2018, and would start the exchange of data from September 2019 on a yearly basis,” reported NDTV.
