On Saturday, Prakash Kumar, CEO of Goods and Service Tax Network (GSTN) told ET that over 67 lakh taxpayers will come under the ambit of this new GST regime. For this, the agency has shortlisted 34 companies across the country to be GST Suvidha providers (GSP).
In a recent interview with ET, Kumar said
around 67 lakh taxpayers are ready for GST and over 66 lakh have migrated to the new regime on our portal. They have also seen 1.7 lakh new registrations and the registrations are still open. The network has identities of 83 million taxpayers based on the total number of entities who have to pay Value-added and other taxes. However, there might be a chance of double counting for those registered under VAT, services tax, and excise. The GST threshold is ₹20 lakh, so businesses that do not fall under this will also remain out.
GSTN portal offers tax payment services which will be live on Saturday with the help of 25 banks authorised for net banking, while others will be linked through RTGS and NEFT. GSTN is also releasing Excel sheets for people to start making accounts of their tax data so that proper information can be maintained. Taxpayers can download and maintain their records, and later visit our portal to upload it. They are also preparing application program interfaces and releasing them on time for GST Suvidha Providers to connect to them is the top priority. The company has already decided to do it in instalments. We want the GST Suvidha Providers to be in sync with us and provide services to taxpayers.
