Tata group Chairman Emeritus Rata Tata today asked employees of Tata Motors to plan on becoming leaders again, saying it hurt him when the auto maker lost market share in the last 4-5 years and the country looked at it as a ‘failing company’.

Mr Tata was accompanied by Tata Sons chairman Chandrasekaran, arrived in Pune in an helicopter to a rousing welcome from Tata Motors employees.

Tata, who addressed the annual townhall of employees — a tradition which he started on the start of every new fiscal year — after a gap of almost five years, said that under the leadership of Chairman N Chandrasekaran and MD Guenter Butschek, Tata Motors will continue to build in the future.

It is a tradition at Tata Motors, started by Tata himself, when Tata Motors marks a beginning of the new financial year by way of the annual ”All Hands Meet.”

Guenter Butschek, the MD of Tata Motors said the concerted effort on the turnaround strategy of FY-18 led to many positive changes.

Tata Motors has regained its number fourth position in the passenger vehicle space at the end of FY-18 overtaking Honda Cars in India.

Moreover in 2017-18, the company has been able to improve its sales significantly. Its cumulative domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles segments for FY18 were 5,86,639 units compared to 4,78,362 units in FY17, a growth of 23 percent.
