Reliance Jio

Reliance Industries is planning to formally declare separate results for Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) from the second quarter i.e. from July-September quarter. The board will be the key body to decide the same. The idea behind separate result is that the company wants the business to settle down and then report numbers separately.

In April, Jio reported a net loss for the six months ended March, which widened to ₹22.50 crore from ₹7.46 crore a year earlier. While Jio is again in the customer acquisition mode, from conversion to paid service.

According to the Goldman Sachs Equity Research report, Jio has added 0.4 million active subscribers in April. The decrement in the Jio’s new subscribers is due to the low availability of the 4G handsets but Jio is still getting a majority share of the incremental 4G smartphone shipments. While Bharti Airtel has added more active subscribers (2.6 million) than the new telecom venture.

Besides Jio is planning to launch a 4G feature phone to target mid-level to low-end of industry subscriber base. But until then subscriber additions are likely to remain subdued.
