According to a global market research firm, GfK, the demand for smartphones in India will not be affected by the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax(GST). It is expected that the overall demand will hit 234 million units in 2017 in India, which will be 11% increase in year-on-year sale.

It added, “Smartphone demand in India also remained resilient in the second quarter of 2017, having levelled out slightly to 14 per cent year-on-year. This represents the strongest growth across all regions for the year”.

The smartphone demand in the Asia hit 56.7 million units, which is 13% year-on-year growth. The major contribution in the figures was powered by the Bangladesh and Malaysia.

The report added, “In Bangladesh, smartphone demand grew by a strong 40% year-on-year. Malaysia is maintaining a steady recovery from its 2015 slump and here, demand in 2Q17 grew by 31% year-on-year”.

While in China, the smartphone market demand plateaued in the second quarter of 2017 at 110.1 million units, showing no change year-on-year.
