After announcing earlier this year that Samsung would skip a Note generation in order to introduce new models from the Familia next year, the electronic mammoth has meandered to a different decision altogether to completely remove the Note series from its product planning for 2022, according to a report from Korea’s ETNews.
The report suggests that the Note series is being dropped off to pave the way for the company’s Z-series of folding and flipping phones.
The Galaxy Note 10 and 20 series, as per a report by GSMArena, counted 12.7 million and 9.7 million orders in their years of launch which are 2019 and 2020. Whereas the Galaxy Z Fold alone reportedly counted 13 million orders. The increasing interest in foldable phones, which also happen to get better every year, could be the final nail in the coffin for Samsung’s Note series which Samsung may now consider an unnecessary proposition between the S-series and the Z-series.
Additionally, the report mentions that Samsung is stopping the Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra production in 2022, but that’s to be expected given that those two models have been released more than a year ago.
Apart from the flagship performance and S Pen compatibility found on Samsung’s S-series, Samsung officially added S-pen support to the Galaxy Z series earlier this year with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This leaves the Note series redundant with no real USP to offer to Samsung’s flagship smartphone portfolio. The higher sale numbers for the Z-series aren’t helping the Note series either.
It is reported that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra will take on the concept of the Galaxy Note and unlike the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s adaptation of the S Pen, the S22 variant will have its own S Pen silo within the body.
More information on Samsung’s planned lineup for 2022 may be revealed during the expected upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022, where the company is expected to launch its Galaxy S22 series.
The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was released in 2020 and was Samsung’s hero product in its conventional smartphone lineup, which was soon followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 2. In India, Samsung now only sells the Galaxy Note 20 at a price of ₹44,999 for the 256GB storage variant.
