The construction arm of engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order worth ₹1000-2500 crore from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the construction of Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Tunnel, livemint reported. 

The order includes construction of tunnels, bridges and formation works in Uttarakhand. Total income of the company for the year ended on March 2019 as stated in its Statement of Profit and Loss was 89756.70 crore. 

The Mumbai-based  company is managing to succeed when Indian economy is under severe crisis. The 74-year-old company had been bagging orders from from different sectors spread across various states. In November 2019, it received an order from the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO) for augmenting and strengthening the Dhanbad Urban Water Supply Scheme.

In West Bengal, it got order from State Project Management Unit for flood protection works and embankment strengthening of Damodar river in Bardhaman and Hooghly districts. Even Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) gave it an order to construct stone columns in Krishnapatnam. It also secured order from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for construction of piles and related civil work for the 2×660 MW at Supercritical Thermal Power Project at Ennore, the Economic Times reported. 

“Besides, the company has received an order from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for underground works at Korukkupet station, Chennai, and from IndusInd Bank to construct a diaphragm wall for a basement multi-level car park at Teynampet, Chennai,” Business Standard (BS) reported. In Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool, the company’s buildings and factories business received an order for execution of mechanical works for a cement plant. 

The company was also involved in making  statue of Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as Sardar Patel at Rs 2989 crore, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31.

As per BS reports, in August 2019, The Power business of Larsen & Toubro has bagged engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order valued between Rs 1000 to 2500 crore from public sector National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) to set up Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system at Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh.

In June 2019, L&T’s power business got a mega order over Rs 7,000 crore to set up an ultra-supercritical power plant in Buxar district, Bihar from SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd, formed in 1988, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh and a Mini Ratna public sector undertaking.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the plant in March this year. 

In February 2019, the buildings and factories business bagged orders from private developers for construction of hospitals in India, particularly in Udupi, Karnataka. While the company did not disclose the exact value of the contract, it said it has bagged a large order valued between Rs 2,000-5,000 crore.

In January 2019, L&T’s  construction arm won orders worth Rs 1,060 crore in the domestic market. 

“The smart world and communication business has secured a major order from the Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited (APSFL) for Bharatnet Phase-II works to establish an IP/MPLS Infrastructure covering the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh,” the engineering and construction major said in a BSE filing.

L&T said another order has been secured from Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City near Pune for the creation of a city network backbone and implementation of smart elements such as Wi-Fi, smart kiosks and variable message displays across the city.

In October 2018, L&T’s Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business bagged orders worth Rs 7,489 crore in the domestic market. “A major order has been received from the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) for the construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project,” L&T said in a BSE filing. 

“The order involves construction of a 3.82 km long, 8-lane highway over reclaimed land from Priyadarshini Park to Baroda Palace including interchanges at Amarson Garden and Haji Ali,” Business Standard reported.

The company said it has also received a major variation order from the Irrigation and Command Area Development Department of Telangana, for the Medigadda Barrage Project.

Further, In August 2018, L&T’s construction arm bagged orders worth Rs 12.96 billion across business segments in the domestic market. The company said its metallurgical and material handling business has received orders worth Rs 8.08 billion. Its water and effluent treatment business also bagged an order worth Rs 4.88 billion from Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd for the execution of a water supply pipeline from Narayanpur reservoir to Kushtagi in the Krishna basin,” the engineering and construction major said in a BSE filing. 

L&T reported a 21 per cent jump in profit at Rs 8905 crore in Financial Year 2018-19. The consistent growth of the company is proving its tagline ‘Led by Technology, Equipped for Growth, right.
