Low-cost carrier SpiceJet is likely to become a member of the global airlines’ grouping International Air Transport Association (IATA).

290 airlines are already a part of the grouping which is about 82 percent of the total traffic.

IATA Director General (DG) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Alexandre de Juniac, told PTI, “SpiceJet has requested to be a member”.

SpiceJet spokesperson gave no response to the query.

IATA consists of Air India, Jet Lite, Vistara, and Jet Airways as its members.

The grouping’s CEO said, “All the low-cost carriers are welcome. Thirteen percent of our members are low cost. Almost majority of our new members are low cost, especially in Asia.”

This year, at least 11 airlines from around the world have become a part of the IATA. The grouping maintains an international perspective and provides a unique global voice on behalf of its members, according to its website.
