Digital pioneer and early Google employee Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, passed away after battling lung cancer for two years, according to her husband.

Her Husband, Dennis Troper posted on Facebook, “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”

In addition to being Wojcicki’s lifelong closest friend and partner, Troper described Wojcicki as “a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many.”

Her influence on the globe, as well as our family, was immense. Troper remarked, “We are thankful for the time we spent with her, even though we are devastated. “Please remember our family as we get through this trying time.”

One of the most well-known women in Silicon Valley, Wojcicki has been connected with YouTube’s parent firm Google since the business’s inception, when its two founders developed a search engine in her Californian garage. She eventually joined Google as its sixteenth worker, and she had been there for about twenty-five years.

In a post on X early on Saturday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai offered his sympathies, stating “She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I’m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly.”

She was in charge of YouTube throughout the critical shift of the internet towards social media, as well as when online platforms came under growing criticism for disseminating hate speech, false information, and other undesirable content.

In her letter announcing her resignation in 2023, Wojcicki remarked, “I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved.” “It’s been intense, significant, and all-consuming.”
