Indian automaker Tata’s Tiago made it to the list of top 10 passenger vehicles of the year. Tata Tiago backed the tenth spot while the list was topped by Alto.

With total domestic sales of 8,286 units, Tiago made its entry for first time since January 2018. Tiago which launched in April 2016 outsold new rival Hyundai Santro for the second consecutive months that too with high margins.

As per the data, 6785 units of Santro were sold in the month of February (2019). Although, Santro may have fall short in sales to enter the elite space of top ten passenger vehicles (PV) but  Hyundai’s other three models Elite i20, Creta and Grand i10 featured in the list at 7th, 8th and 9th positions respectively.

The major reason behind this could be that Tata’s Tiago comes in more variants while Hyundai’s Santro comes only in Petrol Variant. Both the cars come in the same price bracket of ₹4.20 lakh-₹5.70 lakh.

Currently, Tata Tiago contributes over 42.21% to Tata Motors’ total PV sales. The automaker dispatched a total of 19,626 units in February 2019.

“It is a combination of the design language of new Tata models and the fun-to-drive factor that is driving sales. These are characteristics that were previously not associated with TaMo models,” Kaushik Madhvan, Vice-President-Mobility, Frost & Suvillan, said.

Also, the first 6 spots were retained by Maruti Suzuki with Alto, Swift and Baleno at first, second and Third position with 24751, 18224 and 17,944 cars sold respectively.
