To promote sustainable aviation projects, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has extended its collaboration with Rolls-Royce, a British multinational that works on services, power systems, and civil and defense aerospace. According to a news release, the partnership is focused on studying hydrogen fuel system technologies, highlighting hydrogen’s potential as a future zero-carbon aviation fuel.
To address the three main obstacles to enabling hydrogen for aviation—fuel combustion, fuel distribution, and fuel system integration with an engine—TCS will provide Rolls-Royce with engineering expertise and support.
Validation of every component is necessary for safe operation. This collaboration demonstrates TCS’s dedication to fostering long-term change in a variety of industries, which is in line with its overarching goal of utilizing technology to advance society. By 2050, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) wants carbon neutral.
“We welcome TCS to our hydrogen research program and their engineering skills will play a valuable role in addressing our technology goals,” stated Alan Newby, Director of Research and Technology at Rolls-Royce. He further said that they’ve already come a long way, and having TCS on board allows them to do even more as they continue to advance the energy transformation that the aviation industry needs.
At the Farnborough International Airshow, where TCS also demonstrated its technological expertise in the aviation sector, the enlarged relationship was revealed. Long-standing ties between Rolls-Royce and the Tata Group, including engine development and a strong supply chain commitment, are strengthened by this partnership.
Since 2010, TCS and Rolls-Royce have collaborated in several domains including design, manufacturing engineering, software, control systems, after-market services, and IT services. Together, they have supported significant civil and business aviation initiatives with the entire product development lifecycle.
