One of the leading operators Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have merged up to invest over RS 74000cr to upgrade and expand their infrastructure to address the issue of call drops.

While bringing forward their analysis, the TSPs (Telecom Service Providers) brought to the observation that the secretary that call drops have stabilized but other problems like fading of calls have gone up.

It has gone up “due to various issues, including some mobile phones not complying with required certification norms.”

Officials of major TSPs, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio on Tuesday, met the secretary to talk upon the problem of the call drop issue.

“Reliance Jio will invest Rs 50,000 crore in installing one lakh towers in the coming fiscal, ” Sundararajan told reporters after meeting senior officials of telecom companies.

Currently, discussions with equipment makers to handle this issue are going on, she added.

Telecom operators claimed that call drop in Mobile phones without Global Conformity Framework certificate is more in comparison to the certified devices.

Telecom operators provided with the information that in past few months the data usage has grown up 6-7 times and continues to show an increment of 20-25 percent every month but they were astonished to observe two times growth in voice traffic which has increased the load on networks.

Since the last two years,  mobile service quality has remained a burning issue, irking consumers. In 2016, the regulator had even ordered operators to compensate users for call drops (Re 1 for each call dropped) but the missive was struck down by the Supreme Court.

The problem of call drops stands as challenges before the operators to overcome it as soon as possible.
