After 12 years of its successful operations, the Singapore government-owned investment company, Temasek has completed the Temasek investments in India at ₹65,000 crore investment mark in India. The company has done record investment in India and is planning to do more in the coming future, but they are searching for the right opportunity.

Temasek has started investing outside its home country since 2002. The company doesn’t want to be called a fund, as it does not raise money from outside but has its own balance sheet and pays taxes like a company. It makes investments through its own divestments or earnings through dividends.

It started investing in India since 2004 to tap the opportunities that came with rising consumption. In the past five years, on an average, the company has invested 6,500 annually. Promeet Ghosh, managing director of Indian operations at Temasek said, “We had a record net global portfolio value of approx. ₹12,00,000 crore at the end of March. Out of this about ₹65,000 crore is invested in India now”.

The previous year, Temasek left Bharti Airtel by selling its stake to SingTel as part of its global portfolio restructuring. Also late last year it increased exposure to financial services in the country by picking up a stake in SBI Life Insurance.
