The Karnataka government on Sunday lifted the ban from cab-hailing services Ola after the state department banned the Ola for 6 months over non-compliance of its order.

Two days after transport department banned Ola for operating illegal and unsafe bike taxis  Priyank Kharge, the state minister for social justice in a statement on Twitter said, “@Olacabs will run their business as usual from today. However there is an urgent need for policies to catch-up with new technologies & also industries too should work closer with Govt to help evolve policies for innovations.”

After the ban the cab hailing startup reached to Kharge for requesting that the ban should be lifted.“Issues are currently being resolved and is on the right road now,” said one person in know of the development.

A letter sent to Ola parent ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd on March 18 by the state transport department ordered the company to suspend all operations, including four-wheeler cabs, within the next three days. The letter was sent because Ola was conducting a pilot since February for its bike taxis without the permission of authorities. This prompted the authorities to ban Ola for next 6 months.

The letter read-“As ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd, which operates Ola, has violated the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules 2016, their aggregator licence — which was issued for a period up to June 2021 — remains suspended.”

Although, after the announcement of Priyank kharge Ola is back on roads of Karnataka but still the issue pertaining to the permission for bike taxis is yet to be resolved.
