Chairman and Managing Director of Chennai-based Celeris Technologies, Venkatramani Sumantran, is now the independent director at IndiGo.

In an official statement, the airline revealed that Sumantran shall hold the position for the next 5 years. Further, they stated that he serves as an adjunct professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also on several advisory and statutory boards in India and abroad.

Having worked for over 35 years in Europe, Asia and the USA, Dr Sumantran has a rich industry experience. In addition to his extensive experience, he is an industry leader, technocrat, academic and author.

In the years 2001-2005 he was the executive director for Tata Motors Ltd. He was also the chief executive of Tata’s car business during its developmental years. Up until 2014, he served as the Executive VC of Hinduja Automotive, UK and as the VC of Ashok Leyland Ltd.

“I feel privileged to join the Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited. In a relatively short time, IndiGo has not only established itself as a market leader, but has also set new benchmarks in professionalism, efficiency, and customer satisfaction,” said Sumantran.
