Hyderabad has bagged the ‘World Green City Award 2022’ in addition to ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ in another category at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea on October 14.
Hyderabad emerged as the overall winner of the “World Green City Award 2022 from the list comprising Paris, Bogota, Mexico City, Montreal, and Fortaleza in Brazil. The award recognizes ‘nature-oriented approaches to city design and operation’.

The award is a token of appreciation for the initiative of encouraging “greater use of plants and nature to create better city environments – helping to fulfill local aspirations for improved economic, social and environmental resilience.”

Another award– ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ won by the state is an acknowledgment of its efforts of running a tree-planting program. ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’ is a large-scale tree-planting program that the state introduced in 2015-16.
“The program envisages increasing the tree cover of the State from 24% to 33% of the total geographical area of the State,” says the award.
Announcing the achievement, KT Rama Rao congratulated the entire Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD Arvind Kumar.
