The Government is taking every possible measures to make the city anti-polluted, and bring the traffic under control. The noise pollution and smoke emissions are the major issues faced by the city.  A new law was declared last week, stating that the RC book of the vehicles would be seized, and a fine may also be levied if found using shrill horns.  This week the RTO has focused on the Pollution under control certificate which is also known as the emission certificate.

The suspicion aroused when a kolar bound bus was emitting more smoke than that was mentioned in the certificate. The KR Puram RTO officials wanted to dig out the truth and hence started investigating. They found out that the bus had never been tested at the emission test centre (ETC) and the certificate was fake which they claimed to have obtained from the emission test centre. It was a very shocking incident which made the official to plan an undercover operation.

The sting operation revealed that fake emission certificates were issued to those vehicles, which did not even exist. The officials approached the emission centre to issue certificates for 2 vehicles, which were fictitious. The vehicles received the fake emission certificates for an amount of Rs 300. The certificate conveys that the vehicle is fit and  are pollution free. Such fake emission certificates are a huge risk to the lives of passengers and the pollution emitted is a silent killer.  The research says that in 2010, more than 2.1 million people in Asia died prematurely from air pollution, mostly from the minute particles of diesel soot and gases emitted from the cars and the lorries.

Thus, the government is planning for a complete investigation and would suspend the vehicles who have obtained a fake emission certificate. A strict action would be taken on these emission centres, who are encouraging such faulty things.
