You must have read articles about annoying people in Delhi metro, how metro is getting over crowded, how it gets stuck, stranding people in the middle of nowhere etcetera etcetera. But I am not going to rant about all of that here. I want to thank Delhi metro here. Not because of its comfortable and timely services, not because it is the quickest and most convenient public transport system in India but for being considerate.

DE31_PG3_CITY_4COLS_739057f-500x333Yes, considerate towards the differently able people of this city. I have been traveling in the metro since my childhood now, yes I was very young, around 10 when the metro first started in Delhi. And the fact that the metro has specially reserved seats for such people amused me at that time. Since then I have always seen metro employees helping blind or physically disabled people reach the platform and board the train. They also make sure such passengers get a seat. The regular announcements and led lit maps in the metro are of a DSC_8749-500x375great help for such people. This genuine concern and effort makes me feel so good and proud at the same time.

Few days ago I met Ruchi, a blind co passenger. The conversation of nearly three and half minutes with her getting down from the platform to the last step of the metro station is probably the most interesting conversation I had till date. She told me how metro has made it easy for her to commute and she doesn’t have to go through the hassle of finding a bus.
So, thank you Delhi metro for making life a little easier for these people. Also just a little appeal to all the co commuters, help these  people by letting them out of the train first, give them company walking down the staircase, Que’s can be difficult for them so let them so let them exit first.

Shared love is love multiplied. Till then happy traveling!
